Action Fair!

This Monday’s meeting (12/17) will be an Action Fair! We’ll spend the first part of the meeting taking important and timely actions, and reserve some time at the end for discussion.

Topics may include

  • HR 1, a sweeping reform bill that aims to restore voter rights, remove big money from campaigns, and strengthen federal ethics (read about it here)
  • Indivisible’s call to action on January 3rd, the first day of the new Congressional calendar!

Coming Up for January

Save the Date for our next meeting, January 7th, when we’ll be hosting our New England liaison to Indivisible National, Marguerite Suozzo-Gole, as well as lead organizer for Indivisible MA, Michael Ansara. They’ll be with us for the entire meeting to talk about Indivisible National’s new organizing strategy, and to brainstorm about how we can best mobilize and maximize our impact in the coming year.

This meeting is being co-sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Resist Coalition.

Team News

Elections Team

Thank you

to everyone who helped out with the mid-term elections in one way or another. Although it was not the overwhelming Blue Wave that we were all hoping for, we flipped the House of Representatives, which is a big deal. There will now be a meaningful check on Trump and his out-of-control presidency. A lot of people did a lot of work to make this happen, and you should be proud! The Elections Team is still on hiatus, gathering our strength for 2020.

Protecting Democracy Team

Our next meeting will be on a Wednesday in January, the exact date TBA, at 7:30, upstairs at Packard’s.

Medicare For All Team

The Northampton hub of Western MA Medicare for All (WMM4A) is considering its next actions. Hubs in other towns are planning to lobby their representatives in late December and early January to ask them to support

  • re-submission of the “Medicare for All” bills to the MA legislature in January and to co-sponsor the bill in the House. The House has a January 18th deadline to become a co-sponsor.
  • a joint House and Senate caucus for Single Payer healthcare.

We in the Northampton hub already have and appreciate of the strong support and advocacy of our representative-elect Lindsay Sabadosa and senator-elect Jo Comerford. We are considering the best ways to support them and their efforts.

An important goal of WMM4A is to develop grass-roots support for Medicare for All across the Commonwealth by establishing hubs in every district . We are also developing specialized hubs , such as the group for healthcare providers, and soon a hub for businesses.

Our next meetings are:

Full Western Mass. Medicare-for-All group:
Wednesday, January 9, at 6:30 pm,
in the Community Room at Hampton Court,
20 Hampton Ave, Northampton

The Northampton hub sub-group:
Tuesday, December. 18, at 7 pm, at Pathways Co-Housing.

Everyone is invited and welcome.

The Campus Outreach Committee

Our next meeting will be in February, time and place TBA.
