Team News

Medicare For All Team

Western Mass. Medicare for All is joining forces with Mass-Care (https://www.masscare.org/), a Boston-based coalition advocating for single-payer health care to cover all Massachusetts residents. This should be a mutually beneficial alliance and strengthen the movement.

To increase co-sponsorship of the Medicare for All bill in the Massachusetts legislature, we are sending emails to our friends in other areas of Massachusetts asking them to write to their representatives and senators urging their support for the House and Senate bills, which will be posted on January 18, and to join the Medicare for All Caucus (in both houses) to help build support in the legislature and in their communities. Below is a sample message. Please send it to your friends in other districts to support this initiative.

Separately, we are planning to go to a lobby day at the State House Boston on Jan. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to build support for the bills. Car pools are leaving from here to go to Boston. Please contact me at LPareles@yahoo.com to join in a carpool to go there.

We are marching in the Women’s March this Saturday, January 19th, and tabling at the Activist Fair at First Churches afterward.

Sample Message:

Dear Representative/Senator (name),

I am writing as your constituent, asking you to ask you to co-sponsor the new House and Senate bills to implement a Medicare for All plan in Massachusetts. There is very strong public support for a single-payer health plan here, and I would like you to co-sponsor these bills. I also ask you to join the Medicare for All Caucus to support these bills.

Please work hard to implement a Medicare for All plan in our state. This would be a more comprehensive, universal healthcare financing plan that would provide better coverage, and save money too.

Please work to pass these bills to improve our healthcare now.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Last, but not least…

The Medicare For All team would like to thank our new State Representative, Lindsay Sabadosa for her work on Medicare for All for Massachusetts. Our Northampton chapter of Indivisible proudly endorsed her candidacy and platform. She is currently filing a Medicare for All bill in the state legislature, co-sponsored by Jo Comerford and many others. We are grateful to Lindsay and will continue to support her efforts.
