News & Events the Week of November 19, 2018
When: Open meeting, Monday, November 19, 7:30 PM – 8:45 PM
Where: 25 Mountain Laurel Path, Florence.
Monday’s meeting will be a time to
Act, Debrief and Look Ahead!
We’ll start with a postcard action to help Democrat Mike Espy win his run-off election for Senate in Mississippi!! Then we’ll move to a discussion of the midterms and our roles in it – what worked well, what we learned, what we’d do differently in the future. And, speaking of the future, if we have time, we’ll also take a look at the new Indivisible guides: Indivisible on Offense and Indivisible States which help move our advocacy from defending against Trump’s terrible policies to shaping our own – at both the federal and state levels!
Come join us : 7:30 – 8:45pm, Monday, November 19th, 25 Mountain Laurel Path, Florence, and let’s carry on together!

Hot Chocolate Run, December 2
The Hot Chocolate run is sold out, but you can still donate to Safe Passage using the link below.
to everyone who helped out with the mid-term elections in one way or another. Although it was not the overwhelming Blue Wave that we were all hoping for, we flipped the House of Representatives, which is a big deal. There will now be a meaningful check on Trump and his out-of-control presidency. A lot of people did a lot of work to make this happen, and you should be proud! The Elections Team is taking a brief hiatus, then we’ll be back at work. I’m sorry to say that the 2020 election is not far off!
In the meantime, the 2018 election is still not finalized. Votes are still being counted in Georgia and Florida, and there is a runoff happening in Mississippi. If you are interested in helping with the Mississippi election, you can write Postcards to Voters. Use this link to learn more and sign up. Alternately you can text RUNOFF to (484) 275-2229 to get started.
Protecting Democracy Team
At our next meeting we will be reviewing ideas for post-election actions.. Some ideas up for consideration:
- continuing with Ballots Over Bars project (see article in current Atlantic),
- resuming work on Courtwatch project
- postcard action in support of Maryland lawsuit against Trump’s appointment of Whitacker as interim AG
- immediate action on Vote Forward campaign
The next team meeting will be on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:30, upstairs at Packard’s.
Medicare For All Team
The Medicare-for-All group is going to continue their advocacy for a Single-Payer Medicare-for-All plan for Massachusetts. We are meeting to reassess the situation and plan how to move forward.
We are pleased with the results of the vote on ballot Question 4 in support of instituting a Single-Payer healthcare system in Massachusetts. Approximately 80% of voters said “Yes” on this question, and fully 87% of the voters in Northampton voted “Yes”. Clearly there is strong support for Single-Payer healthcare in Western Mass., and our state representatives are strongly supportive as well.
Our next meetings are:
Full Western Mass. Medicare-for-All group:
Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 6:30 pm,
at the Hampton Court, Northampton meeting room.
The Northampton hub sub-group:
Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7 pm, at Pathways Co-Housing.
Everyone is invited and welcome.
The Campus Outreach Committee
Our next meeting TBA
Our regular meetings are the 1st and 3rd Monday
of every month from 7:30 – 8:45. All are welcome.
Come and join one of our teams!
