Mama’s Day Across Bars – Act by May 14

 In Helpful Resources

This Mother’s Day, let’s honor all the mothers separated from their kids by the state. In women’s prisons, 85% are mothers, and 25% were pregnant on arrest or gave birth in the previous year. Holyoke organization the Prison Birth Project provides doula care, childbirth education, and advocacy to parents incarcerated in the Chicopee women’s jail. Every mother’s day, they collected messages of love through social media hashtag #mamasdayacrossbars and bring those messages to their members inside.

Read more about the campaign here – and participate by May 14 to have your message brought behind the wall and light up a mama’s day. What a simple way to bring love and action together.

Sienna Baskin is a board member of the Prison Birth Project. The Prison Birth Project works on issues related to reproductive justice with women & trans* people at the intersection of the criminal justice system & parenthood.
